Play Group: the first meeting with school
For two-year-olds, led by a play therapist, with no rush to separate from mum.
The play group is a child's first meeting with school. It is not about lessons. It is about learning that the world outside home can be safe, that other children are good company, and that mum leaves and comes back.
Children do not move at the same pace at this age. One lets go of your hand on the first morning; another stands at the door for two weeks. Both are normal. We put the pressure on ourselves, never on the child.
Led by a play therapist
Our play group is run by a play therapist. A two-year-old cannot explain trouble in words, but they explain it in play. What they do when a toy is taken, which corner calms them, what they hold on to at the moment of parting tells us more than sentences would.
How we go about it
Short hours first
The first days are kept short. If the child leaves without exhaustion or tears, the hours grow. The measure is the child, not the calendar.
Same face, same corner
Change unsettles children at this age. The same teacher greets them, the toys stay where they were, the day follows the same order.
No secret goodbyes
A parent never leaves without telling the child. A short, clear goodbye is far easier than a long, uncertain one.
You hear about the day
We share what they ate, how long they slept and what they did, with photos, every evening.
What a day looks like
- Free play, in the corner and with the toys the child chooses
- Sensory activities: water, sand, dough, different textures
- Music and rhythm: simple songs, percussion, movement
- Garden time, outdoors on every day the weather allows
- Books and stories: on a lap, short, over and over
- Self-care habits: washing hands, knowing their own things, sitting at the table
The play group is open to children aged two and over. Places are limited; call us to find a suitable day.
My child is not toilet trained yet. Is that a problem?
Not at all. We do not expect it at this age. Toilet training is handled together, at school and at home, when the child is ready.
Can I stay during the first days?
Yes, during the settling-in period. We shorten your stay together, at the pace the child is comfortable with.
Half day or full day?
In the play group, starting with half days is usually easier. Once the child has settled, you can move to full days.
