Filiz group: the year speech takes off
Three and four years old. Learning to wait a turn, to share, and to say what you mean.
Filiz is the year words arrive in a rush. A child can now say what they want, but may not yet have found the way to say what they do not want. Much of this year goes into learning to say "I do not want to" instead of pushing.
Playing together has to be learned
Three-year-olds mostly play side by side rather than together. Shared play, waiting a turn and lending a toy do not arrive on their own; they arrive when a teacher steps in and names what is happening. Rather than shutting a quarrel down, we explain it to both children.
What this year is about
Language activities
Rhymes, riddles, finishing a story. Vocabulary widens quickly at this age.
Orff music and rhythm
Percussion, body percussion, moving to a song. Rhythm supports attention and language at the same time.
First group games
Short games with rules and turns. This is where losing becomes part of playing.
A vocabulary for feelings
Angry, sad, excited, jealous. A child who can name a feeling acts it out less.
Specialist workshops begin in the Filiz group. They carry a separate fee, and families choose which ones their child joins.
